Your Scar Isn't Just Skin Deep — Why Some Scar Treatments Never Reach It

You've probably been told that scar massage or cupping can help soften an old scar. That's true, as far as it goes. But most scar work never gets past the surface. And the real problem usually lives deeper in your body.
When skin heals from a cut, the body moves fast, and it isn't always tidy about it. New tissue gets laid down quickly, and it can bind to the fascia underneath — the connective webbing that wraps around every muscle, organ, and nerve you have. Once a scar adheres to fascia, it stops being just a mark on your skin. It becomes something your whole body has to work around.
That can look like restricted movement, or pain that shows up far from where the scar actually is. It can mean blocked circulation, a lymphatic system that never quite catches up, or a nervous system stuck in a low-grade alarm because the area still reads as unresolved. For a lot of my patients trying to conceive, recovering postpartum, or just living years past a surgery, it shows up as symptoms that don't seem to have anything to do with the scar at all — until you treat the scar, and they do.
None of that shows up by looking at a scar. It shows up in how you move.
Why surface work has limits
Massage and cupping feel good, and I'm not going to tell you they're useless. But they work on the epidermis and the layer just beneath it. A scar that's fused to deeper fascia, or one that runs through muscle — which C-section scars almost always do — needs something that can actually reach that depth. Surface work can't get there. It was never designed to.
What I use instead
I treat scars with Dolphin Neurostim — Microcurrent Point Stimulation, or MPS. It's a gentle DC microcurrent, at about 98% less voltage than a standard electro-therapy device, applied to points on either side of the scar. Instead of working the surface, the current travels into the dermis and connective tissue where the adhesion actually started, and changes the tissue's polarity so it can finally let go.
Most people feel a mild tingling. Nothing more. A session runs 15 to 50 minutes depending on how much ground we're covering — a shorter session for a single scar or area, a longer one if there's more than one spot that needs attention — and it's not unusual to notice a change in mobility or sensation before you even leave the room. That's something surface work simply can't offer, because it isn't reaching the same tissue.
I'm separately certified in both Dolphin Neurostim and the Mazzanti contralateral protocol, and I combine the two as part of my own approach to this work — something very few practitioners in Europe are doing. I use it because it reaches tissue nothing else I know of can.
Who this is for
If you have a C-section scar — recent, or from years ago — this is worth considering. I typically begin around six weeks postpartum, once the incision has fully healed. The same goes for scarring from any other abdominal, pelvic, or fertility-related surgery, or an older injury scar that still feels tight, numb, or simply stuck.
If you've had surgery before and are planning pregnancy or IVF, treating the scar ahead of time can reduce tension and support easier healing the next time around. And if you've had unexplained pelvic tightness or chronic pain near an old scar that hasn't budged for any other bodywork you've tried — that's exactly the kind of case this was built for.
One note: this isn't done during active pregnancy. It belongs before conception, or after you've healed postpartum.
What to expect
Most people need three or four sessions, depending on how old and how dense the scar is. It pairs naturally with the acupuncture work I already do for fertility and pregnancy care — releasing physical restriction in the abdomen and pelvis, and calming a nervous system that's been braced for a long time, tend to move together.
If you have a scar that's never quite felt resolved, even one from years back, it may still be doing more than you realize. Let's take a look.
